Located at 32 Factory Lane, Jamberoo, the property is set on 3300 square metres of lush level land that was once used as cow paddocks.
Called Le Jardin, which translates to ‘The Garden’ the property was converted to a luxury contemporary home in 2004, with the original exterior retained due to its heritage listing.
The stunning French influenced Parterre designed garden features London Plane tree lined paths, neatly edged lush lawns, box hedges, exotic shrubs and the original 1928 ivy covered dairy boiler as a feature piece.
Elders Jamberoo principal Vivienne Marris said while the original brick, tile and steel has been retained on the exterior, the interior of the engine room has been completely renovated and features a crisp white porcelain terrazzo style finish.
“The home presents beautifully with a large glass front door offering views straight up the avenue of trees in the north facing garden,” Ms Marris said.
“It is just beautiful. When you walk inside you go wow.”
She said the property’s first incarnation was in 1887 when it operated as the Waughope Butter Factory, before amalgamating with two other dairies in 1898.
In 1908 The Jamberoo Co-operative Dairy Company began operation and in 1915, facilities were added to allow for cheese making with the factory noted as the largest cheese maker in NSW at that time.
In 1921 a new pasteurising factory was introduced and the company began supplying milk and cream to Peter’s Ice Cream.
In 1928 the factory was fitted with a new building capable of steam or electrical operations. This structure, built on the other side of Factory Lane, became known as the ‘engine room’.
“In 1956 the factory hit a record production of 31 million gallons of milk,” she said. “The dairy amalgamated with Nowra Dairy Co-operative in 1984 and the factory and engine room ceased operating in the late 1980s.”
Now a luxury home, Ms Marris said the property had been designed for family living with a study, two large bedroom apartments and an oversized master suite with walk-in robes, ensuite and living spaces.
A library boasts four metre high floor to ceiling book shelves and the kitchen has a stainless steel island bench and butlers pantry.
Ms Marris said the home also has heated living and bathroom floors, fully insulated walls and ceilings and integrated air conditioning. The property is connected to town water and also has a 36,000 litre water tank.
