If it wasn't for this man, music would be a lifetime away from where it is today.
David Bowie invented more music genres than any person is entitled.
I was lucky enough to see him perform in 1983 in Sydney at his ``Serious Moonlight Tour’’.
And I saw him again in 1986 on his ``Glass Spiders Tour’’, enough to say he was, by a long way, the most influential musician to have existed, even more than the Beatles, in the past 60 years.
The next closest phenomenon of our time would be Bob Dylan.
Both completely different, yet so much the same.
The ability to write music for many others and themselves – and still influence styles well outside the norm.
Glam rock, punk, electronic, all should give thanks to David Jones, aka, Bowie.
Thanks David Bowie,
Rest in peace.

ASSISTANCE REQUESTED
The Wollongong City Council is looking into the possibility of naming a walk in Fairy Meadow area after Kenneth Owen McIntyre.
In 1970, McIntyre was posthumously awarded the Albert Medal for his bravery during the sinking of the M.V. Noongah on August 25, 1969.
When, after helping a man to the safety of a plank, McIntyre swam away to help another crewman and was never seen again.
His father Mr W McIntyre was living at 39 Bassett Street, Fairy Meadow in 1986. Are there any living relatives of McIntyre in Wollongong?
If you can help please email Rose Cronin at council@wollongong.nsw.gov.au or phone (02) 4227 7111.

A WHITE ELEPHANT
Whenever I go to Wollongong Mall, which is rarely, the song by the Police Walking on the Moon comes to mind.
A gray, sterile, lifeless place where seating in the shade is virtually non-existent and the only greenery is a handful of perhaps inappropriate eucalypts.
Certainly the new format has discouraged the undesirables that used to congregate at various places in the old mall.
However, even those with money in their pockets are voting with their feet and going to the new suburban shopping centres to spend their dough.
Good work Wollongong council.
You've landed us with one of the biggest white elephants imaginable.

PLEASE DON’T SPOIL IT
In the unfortunate event of the amalgamation of Shellharbour and Wollongong councils, please do not allow any of the designers of the Wollongong mall to have anything to do with the Shellharbour Marina.
Please don’t spoil it for us as you have the mall which is, to put it bluntly, downright ugly. I would also like some assurance that the building height restrictions in Shellharbour would not be altered.

URGENT ACTION REQUIRED
Lawrence Hargrave Drive is now a speedway for reckless drivers. Saturday's tragic fatal motorbike accident at Coalcliff underlines the urgent need to implement speed cameras, more frequent highway patrols and other safety measures before another life is lost.
We are lucky enough to live in such a beautiful part of Wollongong and happy to share it with visitors, but our main road has become a magnet for deafeningly loud motorbikes and irresponsible drivers who treat the main road as their own private speedway.
