This type of training is so effective for our bodies in terms of:
- Increasing our fitness
- Increasing our lactic acid tolerance levels
- Burning more calories in the hours after a workout
The only issue is what do you do if you can’t sprint? The answer is very simple - try sprinting on non-impact cardio machines in your gym including:
- Rower
- Bike
- X Trainer
- Rope
You can perform sprints on these different pieces of equipment by going as quick as you can for say 10-15 seconds then having a few minutes off.
This maximal intensity that you would normally get sprinting outdoors or on a treadmill can be replicated by using these different pieces of equipment.
Furthermore, you can make a boring 30 minutes cardio slog on a cardio piece much more challenging and enjoyable by testing your ability to perform at full speed.
This in turn creates many similar benefits to that of sprinting, it simply limits the amount of impact and pressure that occurs through the muscles and joints.
