The show features a rock score from Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown (Parade, The Last Five Years, Bridges Of Madison County).
Geek. Poser. Jock. Beauty queen. Wannabe. These are the labels that can last a lifetime.
Evan Goldman is plucked from his fast-paced, pre-teen New York City life and heads to a sleepy Indiana town following his parents’ divorce.
Surrounded by an array of simple-minded middle school students, he needs to establish his place in the popularity pecking order.
Making her directorial debut is 20-year-old Farmborough Heights resident and Roo Theatre veteran Hannah Garbo, who has been involved with theatre for as long as she can remember.
Working on-stage and behind the scenes in numerous shows, Garbo has loved every curve ball this production has thrown at her.
“Performing and directing are two very different things, and directing is something I have always wanted to attempt,” Ms Garbo said.
“It really makes you appreciate the shows you have worked on when you can put on the director's hat and have the final say, and can then understand the countless months that production teams have put in to previous shows I have worked on.”
Assisting Garbo with the production are her mother Louise Hamilton, her uncle Paul Hamilton, grandmother Adele Hamilton, and even on-stage performing in her show are her younger brother Sam and younger sister Kaitlin.
“My family are my rock, in all aspects of my life, so having them here to help me on this project has been an amazing experience, with some highs, and also some lows,” the director said.
The show features a cast of 13, including Mackenzie Garcia (Mary Poppins Australian Professional Tour) and Emerson Garcia (Les Misérables, Australian Professional Tour).
The production will run from February 5-13.
