Woman charged with multiple police pursuits
About 2pm on Wednesday, a Volkswagen postal vehicle was stolen from Nowra while the driver was delivering a parcel.
The vehicle was then driven to a home in Sanctuary Point, where it allegedly hit two parked cars and a letterbox before fleeing the scene.
Officers from Shoalhaven attempted to stop the vehicle in Nowra.
The driver refused to stop and a pursuit was initiated, however it was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.
Lake Illawarra Traffic and Highway Patrol officers engaged in a pursuit with the vehicle as it travelled through Kiama before spikes were deployed that deflated the car’s tyres.
The vehicle continued driving through Kiama Downs and into Minnamurra before leaving the roadway at Swamp Road, hitting a fence and stopping in a paddock.
The 30-year-old female driver was arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station.
She has since been charged with take and drive conveyance, negligent driving, fail to exchange particulars, police pursuit (Skye’s Law, four counts) and an outstanding warrant.
The woman was refused bail and is due to appear before Wollongong Local Court on Thursday.
Not have proper control of vehicle at Gerringong
About 12pm on Wednesday, police were travelling north upon the Princes Highway, Gerringong in an unmarked police vehicle and observed a Renault goods van and food items being thrown from the driver’s window.
The vehicle allegedly began to swerve from left to right within its lane and at one time moved into the breakdown lane before veering back into the lane.
While travelling parallel with the van police allegedly observed the driver with a food container in his left hand, a fork in his right hand, eating the food.
The driver did not have either hand on the steering wheel and was steering the vehicle using his knees.
Police stopped the driver and breath tested him, resulting in a negative result.
The 26-year-old Caringbah man was issued an infringement notice for the offence of 'drive without proper control of vehicle’, including being fined $425 and three demerit points.
Drug detection at Berkeley during vehicle stop
About 9.50am on Wednesday, police stopped a Mitsubishi Sedan in Berkeley and conducted a search of the vehicle based upon information known to police.
Located in the centre console was a tin containing cannabis.
The 26-year-old female driver from Kanahooka was questioned about the drugs.
The cannabis was seized and the woman will be served a Future Court Attendance Notice for the possession of prohibited drug and a knife.
