The state conference will be held at WIN Entertainment Centre on October 16 to 18, with delegates from all over the state attending.
Councillor Ann Martin said it won’t be “a good look” if there is no elected council in the city.
“From our point of view and the city’s point of view it’s an honour to host the conference, and there will be lots and lots of delegates coming to the city,” Cr Martin said.
“But they will not be welcomed by the local councillors because we’ve just been shafted.”
Cr Martin suggested the news of the state conference in the city may have escaped those making the merger decisions.
“I think they probably didn’t think about it,” she said.
“It wouldn’t have entered their heads that this was happening because the state really isn’t engaged with local government.”
