However, the rocks fished well on the weekend and earlier in the week for those who wrangled a day off, with plenty of luderick and trevally around Bass Point.
The swell that rolled in on Wednesday stirred things up heaps and even more rock blackfish, bream and snapper were caught when they moved in for an easy feed on the natural bait dislodged from the ledges.
Salmon and tailor were around the beaches and most headlands, with fish up to 2.5 kilo caught using mainly ganged pillies.
Angler Jordan Peroni landed a couple of decent salmon while live baiting with yellowtail intended for much large kingfish.
The kings on the inshore reefs have been a hit and miss affair, with a couple of reports of fish up to a metre and last Sunday.
There was one very unhappy crew harassed by a large seal which took both live baits and kingies from them.
Lake Illawarra has recently been tagged as luderick central with the run-out tide being prime time in the channel. But as it happens around this time each year, green weed supplies are very patchy and some have reverted to using small peeled prawn sections.
