A group of teens participating in the Bellambi Links to Learning program have recently opened a community cafe, where they are refining the skills they’ve learnt through a Certificate II in Business. Funded by the NSW Department of Education, the program aims to assist students at risk of disengaging from learning.
Links to Learning coordinator Grahame Glover said the cafe allowed students to put their new customer service, management and communication skills into practice. “They are involved and interested and have really taken to it. They’re showing a lot of enthusiasm and are now discussing expanding the cafe project,” he said.
The cafe operates at Bellambi Neighbourhood Centre every Friday from noon to 2pm. “The cafe’s had a positive impact on the local community. It’s brought everyone together and everyone’s really happy about it.”
