Day One of the tournament, otherwise known as Doomben Cup Day, saw a strong start from the likes of crawfordrs and the Punters Show’s own Glenn Pollett among others. Crawfordrs ended the day with a nice total of $200,000 going into his bank for Day Four whereas the Glennsta put away a satisfactory $181,150 for the Final Day’s assault on Stradbroke Day.

Day Two would prove to be much more difficult for our Day One leaders with neither managing to add to their Day One totals.

However, there were others who managed to have a very big day on Doomben 10,000 day.

In fact, one player would go on to truly appreciate the saying “it was the best of times and it was the worst of times.”

Jamespk burst out of the blocks early on Saturday, going all-in on Wonderbolt in the second race at Randwick. This was followed up with two more all-in bets in the next two races at Randwick.

Betting at its most aggressive!

After Themis and Rodrico both saluted, Jamespk had amassed an unbelievable $1,584,000 BettaBucks. Just an astounding achievement considering he had started with $10,000 like every other punter.

It was at this time that many started to think that the tournament was over and felt that they were now playing for second (which is still paying a very generous $24,075 by the way).

But then, racing is a funny game. And this was proven yet again as the day went on.

Jamespk wasn’t content with his $1.5million and decided to hit Randwick yet again, but this time he would play it safe and only bet $184,000 on Princefamous in the fifth race. Unfortunately, this would be a loss. Not to worry though, he still had $1.4million remaining.

The sixth at Randwick saw a $100,000 on Sangiovese go by the wayside. Still, $1.3million is nothing to sneeze at!

But then, out of nowhere, Jamespk was bitten by the all-in bug once again.

Defying all logic, our intrepid punter Jamespk placed a bet very few of us have ever been able to put on, nor contemplate putting on: $1.3million on the favourite, the John O’Shea trained Souchez, for the win in the fifth at Doomben.

Souchez missed the start badly and never looked likely.

As the Godolphin horse’s chances of winning went down the drain – so did Jamespk’s balance.

In the space of only six bets, Jamespk had risen to a level few of us dream of accomplishing, and then watched it all get wiped away.

He didn’t get a whole lot of sympathy from his fellow punters though, and at the end of the day, Jamespk’s demise at his own hands opened the door for many other punters to amass a generous bank for the final day’s play.

The likes of toddfrey, mirkop10, BronzeBullet and HarryHalpin all jostled for top place during a successful second days play.

When the dust had settled, toddfrey stood just clear of mirkop10 adding a very impressive $366,500 to his bank for the final day. A total of seven players ended up adding more to their banks than the leader on Day One making the day a huge success for many.

Day Three (Queensland Oaks Day) is just around the corner and starts this Saturday.

And as Jamespk proved, anything is possible. So, it isn’t too late to join and if you are already in the tournament, this coming Saturday might be your Saturday.
