The rail returns to the true position at the Central Coast venue today and Lambourne says that means only one thing.

“It’s winter and we’ve had a small amount of rain so the track will hover between dead and slow in the old terminology today,” he said.

“But more importantly the rail is in the true position so you don’t want to be near the rails.

“You’d also prefer to be off the pace unless it’s a particularly slow tempo. To achieve all that you probably need to be wide.”

Of particular interest to Lambourne today is the fifth race, a maiden for the two-year-olds over 1000 metres.

“Memes ($4.40) has the form on the track and did a good job last start - albeit this race might have a bit more depth,” he said.

“Who Said It’s Easy ($2.80) is the spruik horse in the race. He’s been gelded, has trialled particularly well but is very short for a horse with gate one.

“Treviso ($15) is an interesting runner. He’s a debutant from the Allan Denham yard, Tye Angland will ride and he has run in three very fast provincial trials already.”
