The Hawks were boosted by their third Waratah League game with a 94-82 victory over Maitland to move off the bottom of the ladder.
Sydney Kings NBL MVP Tom Garlepp continues to be the dominant force for the Hawks, scoring 40 points and 11 rebounds.
Alex Beagley finished with 14 points, while Sean Vincent Mullan had 13 points and nine rebounds.
The Hawks were four points down after the first quarter, but dominated the next two to take control of the contest.
Hornsby are chasing playoffs action, currently sixth at 7-7, but the Hawks have moved to 3-9, with Maitland, Manly Warringah and Sutherland all within striking distance.
