On Friday morning Clive Bohmer from local aborists and tree cutters Bohmers Tree Care was at the Kindy Korner preschool at Balgownie talking about the importance of trees, and how it’s good for the environment to plant them.
Kids got involved with planting, watering and digging in the dirt.
Various schools held tree-related events, with Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery helping plant trees, and botanic garden staff visiting sites along the coast.
Planet Ark, which organised events, had Adam Goodes and Guy Sebastian in place as modern-day Loraxes to speak for the trees and promote the day.
Meanwhile on Sunday, the celebrations go on at the Foragers Markets at Bulli. There will be tree-themed activities and games, including a rope climbing challenge.
And for a different take on trees – what can be done with them when they’re no longer alive – there will be locally crafted wood items on show, made by the Men’s Sheds.
