Witnesses said the Kiama-bound train left Bomaderry Station, near Nowra at 9.20am on Tuesday and before reaching Berry Station the train was stopped to rescue a naked boy roaming beside the tracks.
Passenger Graham French said the driver and guard both showed enormous compassion for the boy in a difficult situation.
“The train slowed after the crew saw a naked boy beside the line,” Mr French said.
“He was wrapped in one of the crews coats and loaded in the drivers compartment for the ride to berry where he was handed over to police.
“I believe he was aged between 8 and 12.”
