Keene will stage the inaugural Illawarra heat of the Passport to Airlie Band Competition to find the hottest new original group.
“The winner will not only get to play one of Australia’s premier music festivals, but the chance to network with some of this country’s top acts,” he said.
Bands will need to be prepared to play for 30 minutes, including three original songs, during heats at The Oaks Hotel in Albion Park Rail.
The ultimate winner will score $1000 cash and head to Queensland and be included in the main stage lineup which boasts Tim Finn, Daryl Braithwaite, Richie Ramone, The Potbelleez and GANGgajang.
“You just don’t know who’s going to be hanging around in a festival like that ...It’s a good networking opportunity and you just never know who’ll be in the audience as well,” Keene said.
Manager of The Oaks Belinda Williams said she was excited to unearthing some great local talent.
Soloists, duos and bands are invited to register through the event’s Facebook page – www.facebook.com/PassportToAirlieIllawarra
Four heats will be run in September starting on Friday the 2nd, culminating in a final on September 30.
The winner will play at the Grand Final in Airlie Beach, as well as score a $1000 cash prize, accommodation and VIP food and beverage packages for 3 nights.
A bonus prize for the Illawarra winner and runner up include a support slot with The Radiators on December 10 at The Oaks Hotel.
