The Saturday conditions took many by surprise after three days of strong southerlies as they were greeted by very little swell, minimal current and slight zephyrs that were welcomed by anglers who made a late but fast dash for boats and bait.
Early radio reports indicated the snapper were well spread out with some anglers sussing out spots in less than 35 metres depth and finding fish while other found good quality hunting as they travelled out offshore to Wollongong and Bandit reefs.
Jamie McGuire fished with Andy Hislop last Saturday and an elated Andy nailed his personal best with a stonker weighing a tad over 5 kilos and Scott and Vicki Leare also got onto some healthy 3kg fish.
Mark Dandy and Mick Boekestein also bought in quality fish and most fish were taken jigging soft plastics (as per the norm these days) and the standout colours were pink and white in larger sizes.
Those who chose to chase a feed of flathead in lieu of the reddies were not at all disappointed with again some monster lizards sighted at the ramp cleaning tables.
Average size for the flatties was again well over the 50cm mark and all fish were in excellent condition with quite a few gummy sharks and tasty flounder in the mix.
There were a couple of nice kingfish trolled up at Port Kembla last weekend and earlier this week and were taken by down rigging either live squid or slimey mackerel but maybe have a look around Bass Point or Minamurra if the weather permits.
Beaches have been still firing on all cylinders with plenty of good sized whiting still about as well as bream and flathead.
Salmon and big tailor are still doing their thing at dawn and dusk periods and whether you are chasing them on lures, plastics or baits, there have been plenty about.
Mulloway were quite but Joel Jarvis pulled a healthy 10 kilo fish that upped his personal best to date.
