A VIEW SPOILED
Vale to a majestic view - North Werri Headland. Somewhere in the indifference to beauty and form, a development has been allowed to begin on the northern headland of Werri Beach, Gerringong. This location is a vista that many an artist has used as their grounding of form, light and colour to describe the awe of the South Coast on canvas and photo.

The artist Lloyd Rees had a modest home at Werri Beach facing Werri lagoon and the northern headland, where he would sketch and paint the idyllic setting.
“To stand on a south coast headland and look westward to the majestic landscape, to hear the boom of the surf and feel the elating sea air surging around one, is to know a sensation approaching that of ecstacy” _ Lloyd Rees.
John Downton, another artist of the area painted his landscape of the Red Bluff jutting out to the ocean at the base of the northern headland.
The Coastal Walking Track, a natural walk following the old cow trail that meanders along the coast between Kiama and Werri Beach, is a source of pleasure and contemplation at various locations such as Pebble Factory and Third Bay.
Now as I am heading down the beach for a surf or playing with the grand kids in the lagoon or walking along the coastal track, there is beginning to grow on the once unspoilt headland a development of bricks and concrete construction.
This affects me greatly for what is happening to this beautiful landscape. Does it affect you, then write to council and object in your strongest voice.

UNIONS OR POLLIES?
Whilst parliamentarians are misusing and abusing entitlements they have the temerity to criticise trade unions for apparent misuse of their powers. May I remind your readers that it was the CFMEU who donated almost a quarter of a million dollars to the Melbourne Children's Hospital.

ROYAL COMMISSION NEEDED
During my stint as a NSW government public servant there were finance acts, motor vehicle acts and regulations to be followed when dealing with contractors.
If the case of service contractors, inspectors were on the road, on a daily basis to ensure for instance, school bus proprietors carried out operations in accordance with their contracts.
It was our job to ensure that bus operators were paid the agreed monthly rate (in the millions) for the conveyance of schoolchildren.
While we kept an eye on operators the accounts branch kept an eye on us, all our financial transactions were audited by accounts and then passed on for a final scrutiny by the internal audit section.
However it did not finish there. At least once a year we would be visited by the State Government auditors. These workers would not only examine our financial account files but all files associated with school transport; the visits would usually last between one and two weeks.
In contrast, on a daily basis I read about Federal and State governments overpaying multi-billions to private contractors in the areas of health, education, employment without so much as a rap over the knuckles. What is needed is a Royal Commission into all aspects of privatisation.

DRIVEN TO DISTRACTION
Why must WIN TV show a distracting giant blue map of Australia on the screen at all times? Why can't they use a transparent logo like all the other channels?
It has driven me and others I know Australia-wide away from watching the channel. I don't watch their news any more and once the BBL cricket has finished I won't watch WIN at all.
