Being a keen fisher, Katie jumped at the opportunity to have a fish with Oak Flats local Peter Tornaros who is also in “loola” and the pair trolled diving minnows along a water change line and over and around some suspect water following the recent wet season storms up there.
Katie took the big strike on a small cheap minnow and after much arm stretching and sweat, boated an estimated 12 kilo plus Queensland groper that straightened the lure trebles in the landing net.
A few quick happy snaps and the big critter was sent on its merry way.
Members of Illawarra Fly Fishers will meet next Tuesday 7.30pm at Collies City.
A short meeting will be followed by a run-down on members’ recent trip to New Zealand.
