For 20 years he’s been touring around the nation with his guitar, including a stint with pop-princess Taylor Swift a few years back.
Brand is back on the road again with a new sound and returning to an Illawarra venue he says is “part of the fabric of Australian music”.
“What an iconic venue at Waves in Towradgi,” he said.
“The amount of bands and artists over the years that have stepped on the stage in that room there, is absolutely legendary.
“There’s a lot of great memories for a million artists, I think everyone's got stories, everyone’s had big nights down there.”
Brand said he won’t be making any bold political statements or induce the audience into a contemplative coma at the gig, quite the contrary.
“There’s enough doom and gloom in the world, I just want to spread happy,” he said.
Same goes for his new album, Get On Your Feet, which delves into the singer-songwriter’s feminine side as well as sounding more Top 40 than Tamworth.
He’s used some new producers, one in particular who has infused some “cutting edge” style to blend pop, dance and loops in with his country sound.
“It pushed me in a few different directions I wouldn’t have gone on my own. When you’ve done something the same way for 20 years you kind of just fall back on the safe way of doing things,” he said.
“It’s a bit fun, a little bit of heartfelt stuff on there, there’s a song that gets my smooch going, some romantic stuff.”
But long-time fans shouldn’t worry, the star says it’s still “classic Brand, just renovated”.
What an iconic venue at Waves ... it's part of the fabric of Australian music.

“It’s not too much of a departure, it’s not like I’ve gone and made a metal album,” he laughed.
Brand curates his songs the same way he chooses songs for his shows and goes with his gut instinct.
“I don’t sit there and second guess as much as I used to,” he said.
“Now I just totally go with my heart and my gut … regardless of what anyone else says - record labels, managers, anybody.”
