After fighting off relegation with a depleted squad in 2016, the Wolves have brought in reinforcements in the off-season to propel the club back into the mix for a finals appearance.
Earlier this week, former Japanese international Yuzo Tashiro was unveiled as a member of Timpano’s squad, with several more high-profile players putting pen to paper at the former NSL champions.
Former Blacktown City striker Patrick Antelmi, Ex Rockdale City Sun Hristijan Tanoski as well as Luke Kairies, Ben Tosi and Hayden Morton have all joined.
In addition, former Wolves Steve Hayes and Michael Robinson have rejoined the club to help fill the hole left by departing player of the year Zac MacKenzie.
Timpano was rapt with the recruitment heading into the club’s season opener against Parramatta on Saturday night and had high expectations for his revamped squad.
"It took a lot of hard work to get them over the line but was pleasing to get them to the club in the end,” he said.
"I think they could see the direction the club was going in and wanted to be part of what we are trying to do.
"The early signs have been good throughout the preseason, but it will obviously take some time for everyone to settle in and really hit their straps.
"I am confident after a few rounds it will come together nicely. We targeting finals football.
"It is a long season and a lot can happen between now and then but I am sure as time goes on we can achieve it."
Timpano admitted star recruit Tashiro would need a few weeks to get himself up to full fitness after only linking up with the squad late last month.
The 34-year-old striker, who has made three appearances for Japan at international level, last played in the J-League division 2 with Cerezo Osaka before joining forces with the Wolves.
Fellow striker and VISA player Nico Bernal, of Chile, was also a late arrival in preseason but is expected to play a part in the season opener at Melita Stadium.
Similar to the Wolves, Parramatta will be looking to make a statement in the round one meeting after finishing down in 10th spot last season.
However, Timpano wasn’t entirely sure what to expect from the Eagles.
"We haven't seen a lot of them but that's the same for everyone at this time of year,” he said.
"I know they have recruited a few players to try and improve on where they finished last season.
"But the first few rounds of any competition are always a bit up in the air for everyone as you are feeling other teams out.
“Hopefully we can come away with the points.”
