Coalcliff SLSC 'Bombie' fundraiser in Thirroul

They’ll be joined by four other music groups at Anita’s Theatre in Thirroul to help raise money for the upkeep of surf club operations.

Since Wollongong City Council banned Coalcliff SLSC from holding their regular “Bombie Bar” live music event late last year they’ve found it difficult to pay for new equipment and maintain existing equipment.

“We’re trying to fundraise in one night what we would have raised in a whole season,” said licencee and surf club captain Rob Deacon.

Mr Deacon feared it could take years for the “Bombie” to ever be resurrected in its original place, on the deck of the surf club with the ocean as its backdrop.

“It was a community of people coming together once a month on a Sunday and people are genuinely missing that great family afternoon and great opportunity for musicians to display their talent,” he said.

The five-year-old gig was the main avenue for fundraising for the club and came to a halt last December after noise complaints.
