Obviously the region was hit very hard last week with flooding and with some very tragic consequences.
On Wednesday afternoon a large storm cell crossed the region dumping a large volume of water in a relatively short space of time.
While this storm did not do major damage, it was spectacular in its arrival.
“Just got home to Albion Park. Driving through Dapto on the M1 was horrendous. Torrential rain and lightning. Started to feel a lot like last Thursday's drive home,” one reader commented on the Illawarra Mercury Facebook page
It also sent the many photographic buffs of the region scurrying for their cameras or mobile devices.
Readers inundated us with their own images outside of the stunning images captured by our Illawarra Mercury photographers Adam McLean and Sylvia Liber.
The one featured in this editorial was taken by Amber Imelda Hewson at Port Kembla beach before the storm hit and Amber shared on our Facebook page.
Thank you Amber and to everyone who sent us their wonderful images of what was a spectacular weather event.
You can see a selection of this images online at www.illawarramercury.com.aul and they are beautiful images. Thanks Illawarra for sharing them.
The weather has certainly had a big impact on sporting events across the region and this week is no different.
The Provincial Championships scheduled to be raced at Kembla Grange on Thursday are a chance to be moved to Goulburn because of the amount of water that has fallen in the Illawarra.
And more rain is forecast.
Cricket finals have been washed out and grand finals this weekend are in grave doubt as the weather more reflects seen by footballers in July.
More significant rainfalls are predicted for Thursday and Saturday at the very least.
If you are out in the region during more rainfalls please play it safe because with the amount of rain there has already been it doesn’t take much to make things a bit dangerous again.
Now, if only we could do something about this humidity …. but alas that’s going to be with us for some time yet.
It’s sticking around, pun intended.
