Insurance companies won't reduce premiums. If we're lucky they won't go up by as much as they usually do but I bet they will go up.

Instead of paying through your insurance, you'll pay through your rates. This means everyone will contribute, not just those of us with insurance. Much fairer.
_Keith
If you look at your current insurance policies you will see it's a separately listed levy. Therefore once this system is implemented insurance companies will have no right nor ability to collect that levy so that part of your policy payment should disappear. Make sure you check. However it will be fairer, I believe, as all landholders will pay the levy, not just those of us who have insurance policies.

Home owners also have the FSL charge removed from their house and contents policy which also reduces the other government charges like GST that compound after the FSL charge currently.

I've been paying it through my insurance and now through my rates it stinks.

It's based on unimproved land value. Much fairer that charging only those who pay insurance.

HECS changes to cause UOW students ‘triple whammy of pain’
Won't cause any pain. If they are paying for it via HECS they don't have to pay for the degree until they start working, after the complete it and earn $42,000 or over. And then their repayments are based on level of income. Also it's on average $3600 over a four-year degree. Or $900 a year. Or $17.31 a week. None of which is paid while they are studying. There is no struggle above what there currently is.

You either pay fees back directly through HECS or indirectly via taxes. What does it matter? Choosing a lower cost uni may be a better option.
