The “stop alerts” are one of several new features on the app.
“GPS is used on your mobile device to simply notify customers when they are a few stops away so they can get ready to jump off their service,” said Transport Minister Andrew Constance.
Other new features include alerts for any travel disruptions along the commuter’s route.
It also includes service updates for things like track work or lift operation at their stop.
Meanwhile, from July 3 the minimum online top-up amounts for the Opal card will be substantially reduced.
For instance, the adult online minimum was $40 but is now just $10.
The change is being introduced because people weren’t choosing to top up online because the current minimums were too high, Mr Constance said.
