The Gorillas outlasted the first grade new boys 32-24, but only after holding a narrow 10-8 lead at half-time.
It took an impressive second half effort from premiership threat Jamberoo to beat Albion Park on Sunday.
The Superoos, who have lost only to premiers Gerringong this season, won 34-10, after leading by just four at the break. Meanwhile, Port Kembla coach James Storer spoke of his pride as an undermanned Blacks team overpowered Nowra-Bomaderry on Sunday.
Needing victory to keep in touch with the top five, Port responded to win 36-16, after leadin 22-6 at the break.
“It was a really good win, a special effort by all the boys,” Storer said. “Being down to 10 men and performing the way they did, they’re a real credit to themselves.
“Our attitude was something we had to change, losing two players early is an easy choice, they have to change the attitude. They had to really dig deep and they really did, I’m proud of the boys.”
Nowra-Bomaderry coach Dwyane Connors rued the lack of ball control, as the Jets were blown away early in a game that could cost them any hope of finals action.
