The oldest multicultural community in the Illawarra region was the big winner when NSW Minister for Multiculturalism Ray Williams dropped by Wollongong on Tuesday.

Mr Williams was in town to announce funding to support delivering culturally appropriate aged care to Italian migrants in the Illawarra.
The Italian Social Welfare Association Organisation of Wollongong executive officer Giovanna Cardamone welcomed the Multicultural NSW Grants Program support.
She said the $10,000 would address gaps in service delivery for the local Australian Italian community.
‘’As the oldest multicultural community in the Illawarra region, many older generations of our community are finding themselves in residential care without the appropriate support,’’ Ms Cardamone said.
‘’Our project will consult with residential care facility staff to identify the specific needs of Italian residents in residential care to increase their wellbeing, physical and mental health.’’
Mr Williams said the funding will support the organisation’s vital work in caring for local Italian-speaking residents in residential care.
He said the initiative was an outstanding example of the 50 innovative projects that recently received more than $300,000 Multicultural NSW grants funding.
