TRUE INDEPENDENCE
If you are one of the many who believe that councils should be void of party politics, then, it would pay to do some research and find a true Independent candidate running in your local area for the up-coming council elections.

But, be aware of pretend Independents who run as such because they were not nominated by their chosen party. It is quite likely that their allegiances still lie within political party strategies.

VIABILITY THREATENED
This bill is for almost $7000. Our local CWA hall is a centre of our northern suburbs community.
The hall is used regularly for events and functions by a wide variety of local organisations and individuals. Monies raised by the CWA are used for the upkeep and maintenance of this hall. It is not a business. Why, all of a sudden, is the viability of this community organisation being threatened by this cost imposition?

BUY ME A PONY
While my eldest daughter now in her 50s eventually got herself a horse I dearly would liked to have filled that wish for her as a teenager. So I did have a chuckle at my Fathers Day card that read on the front: “I’m still waiting for that pony dad”.

IT’S CHRISTMAS?
I couldn't believe my eyes. I saw a supermarket selling Christmas trees and it's spring. The mind boggles at this stupid greed. I have the perfect solution to this. Never remove your Christmas decorations or trees. Leave them in the shops all year round that goes with your Easter eggs.
Get Santa on the door. You greedy lot may sell more of your crap and really get the kids confused. So I expect to walk into Coles and or Woolies to see their stores full of Xmas trinkets all year round.
Maybe they can afford to take out an add to explain their greediness to the kids on why they are doing this.

TURNBULL HAS TO GO
In light of the 'C' bomb allegedly spewing forth from a boozy Turnbull to then PM Abbott on a return flight to Canberra I'm amazed Abbott didn't immediately sack Turnbull to the back bench.
I can not name one 'captain of industry' that would have excepted a petulant tirade from one of his staff for a direct attack using such vulgar language. This is another textbook example why Turnbull has to resign.

PROCESS IS DIVISIVE
In response to Adrian Devlin's letter (Merc 5 Sept 17) the survey is aimed at determining whether the people support legislation to change the Marriage Act to allow same sex couples to marry. However the supporters of the no case for their own reasons want to make a pretty simple process and question complicated. As predicted the homophobic campaign has started. Claims that a yes result will put children at risk is a joke coming from the churches which turned a blind eye to child abuse.
They only consequence of the survey(apart from the cost) is if the yes case gets up and subject to the government introducing the legislation, same sex couples will be able to marry. Heterosexual couples can continue to have a religious ceremony or elect to have a marriage celebrant perform the service.
The whole process is divisive. The issue of same sex marriage should have been decided by the elected members of parliament as it was when the act was amended by the Howard government in 2004. If a person is not happy the way her/his local member voted then don't vote for them at the next election.
