Lake Illawarra has been turning in some excellent catches of bream and flathead.
The western drifts along from the road bridge to the lake drop-off are proving a very popular spot with whitebait, prawns and livies.
On the eastern side of the lake entrance, the whiting have been on the increase and will take fresh worms and very small plastics and luderick are still about, but fresh weed is getting scarce and watch their small size.
Last moon phase had the locals out setting blue swimmer crabs pots and the results were well worth the effort.
The crabs were full although not in great numbers.
Unfortunately there was an element of ugliness that has raised its head, and so early in the season, with several traps raided and stolen.
It’s important to keep an eye on your own gear and make sure the markings are in line with DPI/Fisheries regulations.
