Hanging in the jungle for reality show I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here relaunched Casey Donovan’s career and she is proud.
The singer-songwriter is on tour again as a solo artist after releasing a seven-track EP, Off the Grid and Somewhere In Between, and admits the lead up was a “bizarre turn of events”.
“I didn't really expect to go on [I’m A Celebrity] and be there for that long or win the show … but it has really launched me back into the industry which has been a really good thing,” she said.
Donovan’s guitar featured prominently throughout the program, something she called a “saviour” from all the down time between filming and going crazy being left alone with just her thoughts.
Overall, she said the experience taught her to accept things for what they are and not run away from her problems.
Since winning Australian Idol as a 16-year-old in 2004 the songwriter has had many ups and downs, and last year turned to UBER driving to pay the bills in between gigs.
Now she’s happily given that up and focusing on music full time, as well as the odd promotional appearance such as for Coles Supermarkets.
“I don’t watch a lot of television or listen to the radio so I’m not affected by the ‘down down’ crisis,” she laughed.
“Some of my friends are like ‘I’m sick of seeing your face’ … but it’s all in good fun.”
