Amelia Nga-Paki Hetet, 29, allegedly drove a knife into the man’s bicep and pursued him until he locked himself in a room and – badly bleeding – appealed for an ambulance.
Hetet sought bail in Wollongong Local Court on Monday. The court heard there were rising tensions between her and her mother’s overseas-born husband, who is living in Australia on a spousal visa.
Hetet, who receives a carer’s allowance for looking after her mother, arrived with her partner at the older couple’s East Corrimal home about noon Saturday to speak to the man about Housing NSW issues and his “alleged historical infidelity”, according to police papers tendered to the court.
Police allege Hetet became angry, picked up a steak knife and –breaking free from her partner’s attempted restraint – came at the man, striking his bicep.
The man was left badly bleeding, with a two centimetre-long wound that reached to his humerus bone and required several stitches.
Police allege she later told him “I’m sorry that’s happened. It’s your own fault. You stabbed yourself”.
In an interview with police, Hetet allegedly said she believed she had blacked out during the confrontation. She said she recalled wrestling for the knife but denied stabbing the man.
She was ultimately granted bail. The matter returns to court December 13.
