Paul Oliver passed away from the disease and Albion Park BC members ensured more than 70 bowlers banded together for the inaugural Paul Oliver Memorial Day recently.
The club had 26 teams take part in the bowls day, including plenty of non-bowlers and visitors from Greenwell Point and from Victoria.
“Paul’s family was heavily involved and the members here at Albion Park really got behind the first Memorial Day for Paul,’’ Albion Park bowls coordinator Brett Pieper said.
‘’Paul was president here for seven years and was a really popular person. This Memorial Day will now be an annual event.’’
Many local Albion Park businesses generously made donations for raffles on the day, and with the $20 per player nomination fee, the club was able to raise $3500 for the Brain Cancer Foundation. In the two-bowl triples event with Marg Bromley, Graham Ball and Frank Coakes taking out the 21-end contest.
‘’Paul put an enormous amount of his time into the club and the members here wanted to support his family and recognise his legacy,” Pieper said.
