After earning a penalty corner, Govers then evaded the glove of Argentinian goalkeeper Juan Vivaldi in the 58th minute.
Australia then outlasted a late Argentinian surge to seal the 2-1 victory.
The Kookaburras had three draws in the group stage, before overpowering Spain, Germany and Argentina to claim the World League crown
“It feels awesome,” captain Mark Knowles said.
“We came here wanting to play well and not knowing exactly where we were at, wanting to play the best teams in the world.
“It’s a pretty good advertisement for hockey when the number one team in the world plays the number two.
“The Olympic champions against a team that want to chase them now. I’m so happy.”
Australian keeper Tyler Lovell made a series of crucial saves during the game, as they denied three late Argentinian penalty corners.
The Kookaburras will return home, before setting their sights at Commonwealth Games gold next year.
