Emergency services received about a dozen calls from the public, reporting smoke coming from a property on Mount Keira Road, about 12.30pm Saturday.
Crews from Fire & Rescue NSW, the RFS, and Police Search & Rescue arrived to find the garage well alight.
Bolt cutters and heavy rescue equipment were used to gain access as crews wearing breathing apparatus entered the premises to search for people.
The Mercury understands no one was home at the time of the blaze.
Water was pumped from a nearby dam and power to the property isolated as the firefighters worked to contain the fire.
"There were concerns of the fire spreading to the house, so a cut-off line was established to stop it," Superintendent Paul Johnstone said.
The fire occurred in a semi-rural property about two kilometres north-west of Edmund Rice College.
A slow-stop traffic arrangement is in place, but traffic is unaffected.
Investigators will work to determine the cause of the fire.
