Simon faces ex-teammates in W-League final

Sydney born and bred, the Matildas star has donned city's Sky Blue as long as she can remember, taking in two premierships and two championships.

This season the shade has shifted to that of all-conquering Melbourne City and in a curious kind off fate both she and defender Alanna Kennedy find themselves facing former teammates in Sunday's grand final.

"It's a little bit weird but I'm excited," Simon said.

"I'm a Sydney girl, so being back in my hometown and on my old stomping ground at Allianz (Stadium) is exciting.

"I've played with some of the girls for a good, solid 10 years. Some of them, we were developed through the NSWIS program together.

"I've played alongside (Sydney captain Teresa Polias) for as long as I can remember. It's a little bit weird.

"But at the same time I've settled into Melbourne and the club has welcomed me with open arms.

"We've got a great group of girls and ... this has been the one W-League where I've got back to enjoying my football."

Even before Simon's double shoulder surgery last year, the 26-year-old was dealing with niggles keeping her from her best.

Time to refresh physically and mentally has her ready for the big stage on Sunday, before she heads for Portugal and the Algarve Cup with the Matildas on Tuesday and then April's Asian Cup with more travel between Australia and the US.

But for all the talk of City chasing an historic three-peat, it's not seeped into the dressing room.

"We haven't even mentioned too much of the fact there's a grand final," she said.

"It's more been the usual training (though) there's a great buzz around the group.

"I think more of an excitement vibe and almost a little bit sad that it's our last week as a group together and that exact same group of players will never play together.

"That's more in our thought process rather than the whole three-peat tagline."
