The McPhersons recently became the first father-son combination in Fairy Meadow’s 61-year history to win the Pairs crown.
On Easter Sunday, Guye and Stephen McPherson extended their great run of results by winning Fairy Meadow’s annual Easter Open Pairs.
Five sides finished unbeaten, with the McPhersons claiming the $600 winner’s purse after having the best shot differential of +37.
Towradgi’s Brent Conley and Mal Lyons were runners-up on 3wins+32 and collected $300; edging out the Wiseman Park husband and wife team of Chris and Ange Smith on countback.
Stephen McPherson has been a bowler for more than 30 years and said winning the club’s Pairs title with Guye was his biggest thrill in bowls. ‘’It’s the best win I’ve had. To play with your son and win a championship is something I’ll never forget,’’ Stephen said.
Meanwhile, the expansion of Fairy Meadow’s Easter Pairs tournament from Mixed Pairs to Open Pairs drew a positive response from players and officials with a capacity field filling two greens.
