Kristy Bell had spent a number of years standing on the sidelines watching her daughter Jannali Eldridge play AFL. But this year, she decided to give the sport a try and step onto the field alongside her daughter.

The mother-daughter duo play for Dapto City Unicorns in the South Coast Women’s AFL Competition, where they compete against the likes of Wollongong Saints, Northern Districts Tigers and the Kiama Power in the first season of the women’s competition.
Five rounds into the competition, Bell has thoroughly enjoyed her experience on the field and she is urging other mothers to take up the growing sport.
“I started playing for fitness and to play some social sport and it’s amazing,” Bell said. “I’m usually on the sideline watching Jannali, she’s an amazing player, so I’m very glad to be playing with her.
“Absolutely mothers should sign up. We’ve got a fantastic bunch of women and girls out there playing, it’s more about having fun and playing for fitness. It’s not as rough as it seems.”
