The three-bedroom, three-bathroom home at 1200 Kangaroo Valley Road has a price guide of $2 million to $2.1 million.
On the market for the first time in 30 years, this treetop house is located atop 2.6 hectares and is framed by an undisturbed rainforest.
The home has been built from materials sourced from the property’s surrounds.
Much of the timber has been felled on-site, and walls built from rocks and boulders found on the land.
Each room incorporates rustic and recycled elements.
The home also features floor-to-ceiling windows and skylights, and the outdoor entertaining area features a large woodfired pizza oven.
Selling agent, Carrie Bond from South Coast Prestige Properties said the owners had been “really hands-on” in constructing the home.
“When we started this project we were a very young couple with no kids and no building experience,” one of the owners, who asked not to be named, said.
“What we did have was a belief that if it can be dreamed up it can be done.
“We designed and built the house with an environmental ethos that always considered the impact and use of any materials included.
“Our aim was to create a building that directly referenced its location.
“To that end, this house has been quite literally drawn from the earth it rests on.”
When the Kangaroo Valley Hall was re-roofed, the old corrugated iron sheets were stacked for disposal and the family were invited to take what they wanted.
“The roof sheets with their vintage makers marks stamped now feature as ceiling linings in the kitchen area – stamps proudly on display,” the owner said.
The owner said they loved the way the house has evolved over time, always willing to grow with them.
“The front living area with its glass roof panels continues to delight us with its portal to the sky and the chance to spot the odd eagle overhead while lying on the lounge.
“Much of our of design and building knowledge has been shared with others over the years.”
