For the next six months the NSW government is trialing a mobile pink slip service in the Illawarra and other areas in the state, including Sydney, the Central Coast and Newcastle.
Roads and Maritime Services Executive Director Compliance and Regulatory Service Melina Bailey said the service will hand out pink slips for cars, motorcycles, trailers and caravans.
“Customers who live in Wollongong, Shellharbour [and] Kiama … will have the option to have an authorised examiner visit them to provide a safety inspection rather than having to take their vehicle to an authorised inspection station,” Ms Bailey said.
The examiners are all private operators already working as inspectors.
Motorists can find a participating examiner via the www.rms.nsw.gov.au/e-pinkslip.
There are two providers in the Illawarra – The Car Inspector and NRMAMotorserve.
“A customer will make direct contact with a participating proprietor or examiner, agree a call out/travel fee and identify a suitable area and time for the inspection,” Ms Bailey said.
