Despite being sent packing at the final hurdle before the round-of-32 by Hakoah Sydney City East on Wednesday night, Willis insists his squad can take confidence from their performance in the competition as they turn their focus on a IPL finals pursuit.
“I’ve said before that the Cup run has been good for us,” Willis said.
“It has bonded the boys together well. We have started playing a lot better since the Cup run and hopefully that will continue.
“[Wednesday] night was probably a bit of a downer but we have had a good journey and we can’t complain.
“We have to get back to the bread and butter stuff and get three points on the weekend.”
The Blueys were beaten 4-0 by Hakoah during the week, but face another tough task when they host a rampant Wollongong Olympic outfit on Saturday.
Olympic striker Yuseke Ueda scored a swashbuckling seven goals in his side’s 9-0 thumping of Picton Rangers last weekend.
In other matches, Albion Park White Eagles host Wollongong United, Corrimal Rangers play ladder leaders Bulli and Picton Rangers meet Fernhill Foxes.
On Sunday afternoon, Port Kembla take on Cringila Lions and win-less South Coast United face Woonona Sharks.
