The 22-year-old man was walking from the Piccadilly shopping centre towards Wollongong train station about 7.40pm, police said.
He was approached by two males who asked him for something, but the man did not understand them. One male started to abuse him and then punched him in the face, before the two youths ran off into a nearby multi-story car park.
Police released a CCTV image of two males who may be able to assist them with their investigations into the assault.
The taller male depicted in the image is described as being of Caucasian appearance, approximately 15 to 18-years-old with a thin build.
He is wearing a black cap, long-sleeved black top with ‘AIR” wording on the right sleeve and black skinny jeans.
The second male is described as being Caucasian in appearance with a solid build and was wearing a dark-coloured cap and top, dark-coloured shorts and black shoes.
Police are urging anyone with information, or anyone who knows the identity of the males, to come forward.
