Robert Specogna and Michael Arbelias started the degustation and wine tasting celebration with Barossa Valley’s Rolf Binder sharing his knowledge.
Mr Binder’s father Rolf Heinrich Binder came to Australia from Hungary in 1955 with a dream to make wine. He said it was great to have restaurants such as Centro CBD providing such an opportunity to wine and food lovers.
On June 28 the Zema family from Coonawarra will talk about their world class wines produced on Terra Rossa soil. On July 24 one of the oldest vineyards in the Margaret River region will be showcased when the nationally and internationally recognised Juniper Estate is featured.
Mr Specogna said if the month long celebration of wine tasting and food went well Centro CBD will definitely do more of them.
He said the three winemakers chosen all represented wines that have been on Centro’s wine list.
“We decided that over winter a great way to let people sample the wines we actually do have here at our restaurant is to have a wine tasting and food experience,” he said.
“To actually have the winemakers here explaining more about their wine is a great bonus. They love coming here. It is just a wonderful experience.”
Mr Binder said it was great to be able to sit down at a table with those present on Wednesday and slow down and forget about everything else for a while.
“It is nice to enjoy a glass of wine with good food and good company and conservation,” he said.
“To me this is about bringing everyone together. And there is so much to learn and share about wine. Hopefully I have shared some of my wisdom. I have been doing this for 36 years and have learned a lot about wine making in that time. It is great to impart that knowledge.”
