Daniel Arzani key for Socceroos in crucial World Cup clash

Unfortunately, anything else will see Australia bow out of the World Cup in the group stage in what would have to amount to a disappointing result given we’ve seen through the past two matches that this team can match it with the top sides in the world.

It’s not going to be easy against a carefree Peru with nothing to lose, but I think the Socceroos can come away with the victory. We saw against Denmark that they can generate the attacking opportunities, they need to convert those opportunities on Tuesday night. 

We’ll likely see a more attacking style of play from the Socceroos, given it’s a must-win, so Daniel Arzani, Massimo Luongo and possibly even Tim Cahill will likely get more playing time. We need goals and those players are the most likely to deliver. 

I would like to see Daniel Arzani start, he’s our biggest threat and can cause problems for opposing defences. He came on against Denmark and made a big difference to the side’s attack, so hopefully we’ll see him play a greater role against Peru. 

At just 19 years old, Arzani has proven he’s an incredible talent. The youngest player at the World Cup, he’s full of confidence, plays with no fear and has the ability to take players on.

He backs himself and while he may make a mistake from time to time, he also creates a lot of chances and causes problems for his opponents. 

While Arzani is at the start of his career, Tim Cahill is near the end of his career and I think it’s clear he doesn’t have the match fitness under his belt to have played a major role for the Socceroos. 

He probably could have made an impact in the last 10-15 minutes against Denmark given the way we were playing, with balls being crossed into the penalty box and if the game against Peru pans out a similar way, we probably will see him come off the bench at the back-end. 

Spirits are pretty high for the boys after Saturday’s victory over Hakoah Sydney City East. It was our second-straight win and it’s pleasing to see we’re starting to find the back of the net. 

Hopefully that continues on Sunday afternoon when we take on Sydney United 58 at WIN Stadium. Home for the fourth-straight week, we’re hoping to deliver another good performance in what is a very important match.

Results went our way on the weekend and we now sit in fifth-position on the ladder, four points behind Sydney United in third.

If we can minimise United’s chances, we back ourselves to score in front of goal and hopefully get the three points and put some pressure on the teams above us.
