The regional junket – Travelling Film Festival – will open with a documentary exploring how boy-bands changes the lives of four women forever.
I Used To Be Normal: A Boyband Fangirl Story explores how deep fan love can go for the Backstreet Boys, One Direction, Take That and The Beatles.
Other program highlights include winner of the Sydney Film Prize, The Heiresses, by Paraguayan director Marcelo Martinessi.
A rare film from Paraguay’s modest film industry, the complex relationship drama takes an unusual look at the lives of wealthy Paraguayan families, through the tribulations of a lesbian couple.
Also screening will be two winners of Dendy Awards for Australian Short Films: Alyssa McClelland’s Second Best, winner of the Live Action Short Award; and Andrew Goldsmith and Bradley Slabe’s Lost and Found, winner of the Animation Award.
Closing the Festival will be Oscar-nominated filmmaker Gus Van Sant’s inspirational comedy Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far On Foot, starring Joaquin Phoenix alongside Jonah Hill, Rooney Mara and Jack Black.
Also screening will be the South Korean mystery drama Burning, which won two awards at the Cannes Film Festival; a Polish love story Cold War from Oscar-winning filmmaker Paweł Pawlikowski; and Woman At War by Benedikt Erlingsson.
The Festival will also showcase three riveting stories from the Middle East: Foxtrot, a thrillingly inventive examination of Israeli military culture; dark Iranian comedy Pig; and comic drama Wajib –The Wedding Invitation, about the lives of Palestinians living in Israel.
