A 10-day sale with increased discounts has begun at Toys ‘R’ Us and Babies ‘R’ Us stores across Australia.
The collapse of the Australian stores follows the failure of the US Toys ‘R’ Us business in March.
The chain of toys and baby goods stores has been trading since entering voluntary administration in May.
The Shellharbour store, on New Lake Entrance Road, is a combined Toys ‘R’ Us and Babies ‘R’ Us superstore.
The Wollongong store, on Ellen Street, was an express outlet.
McGrathNicol Restructuring partner Jason Preston said the realisation of stock across the network will enable all employee accrued entitlements, including redundancy payments, to be paid to Toys ‘R’ Us and Babies ‘R’ Us employees shortly after the termination of their employment.
About 700 full-time workers will have lost their jobs by the time the last of the 44 local stores closes.
