With just one pennant team and 22 active bowlers, Jamberoo upstaged some of the richest and biggest clubs in NSW at the annual three day State Finals.
Jamberoo beat Camden RSL 67-45, St Ives (94-34) and Grenfell (58-43) to clinch their section, then overcame Wangi 66-49 in the semi-finals, before clinching their maiden state flag with a tough 60-57 victory over Taree West in the final last Sunday.
Jamberoo BC was formed in 1956 and after three trips to the State Finals in the past decade in Grade 7 they can now proudly unfurl the flag as champions.
‘’It’s a dream come true,’’ said Kevin Harris, who played lead in a rink skipped by Darren Smithard.
‘’We were optimistic about our chances coming in, after winning the Zone flag and right from the first game at state we played well.
‘’Darren (Smithard) and John Hawes and Rob White did a great job skipping and everyone chipped in when needed.”
After losing just two rounds in the Zone 16 division, Harris hopes the state triumph is a catalyst for attracting more bowlers to the club.
