A decapitated whale calf which was also missing its tail has been removed from Sydney's Bondi Beach, which remains closed due to the risk of increased shark activity.

The juvenile humpback carcass was spotted at the northern end of the beach on Tuesday morning, with the National Parks and Wildlife Service and whale welfare group ORRCA called in to remove it.
The mammal, which was missing its head and tail, was carted away before midday and taken to a waste transfer station in Banksmeadow for disposal, a NPWS spokeswoman told AAP.
It's unclear how the whale died.
The beach will remain closed for the rest of Tuesday because of the risk of increased shark activity, Waverley Council said in a statement.
