In announcing the new Visitor Economy Industry Action Plan minister for tourism and events Adam Marshall said Marketing Sydney will be involved in campaigns and strategies to capitalise on significant growth opportunities particularly represented by Chinese and Indian visitors. It will promote the diversity of rural and regional areas to such priority markets which Mr Marshall said would be a game changer for local economies. The regional NSW target is $20 billion by 2020 and $25 billion by 2030.
Mr Sleigh said the announcement was important as was the commitment to fund events and marketing infrastructure which will make a great impact. A further distribution of visitors will create more jobs.
He said more accommodation will provide more travelers the opportunity to go further afield and spend more money in areas such as Wollongong.
“Also what I love is a commitment to a quicker approval process for tourism infrastructure,” he said.
Tourism already employs 171,100 people in NSW. The bid to triple overnight visitor spending by 2030 is expected to significantly grow the number of jobs.
