Smoothies are an awesome way of providing the body with heaps of nutrients whilst they also provide your system with a well earned digestion break from the heavy foods we typically consume in winter.
Swapping out heavier breakfast options like porridge and toast in favour of a smoothie can really help support your body's natural peak detoxification time early in the morning and really give you an extra spring in your step for the rest of the day.
The combination of apple and green leafy kale in this smoothie provides serious stimulation and support to the liver to ramp up its capacity to purify and cleanse the body of excess toxins (aka inflammation) that may have built up over winter.
Besides being a powerhouse detox smoothie, it is also super delicious, and a cinch to make which makes it an absolute winner in my mind.
So here it is, one of my favourite springtime detox drinks that will give you a spring in your step and allow you to enjoy the vitality of the season.
Makes 1 large serve
Ingredients:
2/3 cup of almond milk
3/4 cup of ice
1 cup kale (roughly chopped)
2 stalks of celery (roughly chopped)
1 green apple (cored and chopped)
1 tbsp flaxseed (ground)
1 tsp raw honey
Method:
Simply put all your ingredients in a blender or food processor and blitz to make a smooth, creamy consistency and enjoy straight away.
For those who want a little extra fibre to start their day, add half an avocado to the mix or a tablespoon of chia seeds for some added nourishment.
