Police were called to Sir Bertram Stevens Drive in the Royal National Park, after bones were found just after 4.45pm on Saturday
A crime scene was established at the scene on Saturday night, and and a coordinated search of the area began on Sunday.
The remains have been sent for forensic examination to determine if they are human or otherwise.
