The Bulls are 2-29 in pursuit of 340, with Jackson Bird confident the visitor's method and conducive conditions will be enough to snuff out any final-day miracle chase.

Bird managed 5-35 in the first innings as Queensland managed just 148 and it took him just three balls to strike in Queensland second innings late on Thursday.

Queensland kept themselves in the contest by bundling out Tasmania for just 132 in their second innings either side of lunch, with Matthew Wade (51) the only man to score more than 15.

But it was enough to set a total Bird is more than happy to defend.

"They are pretty helpful conditions out there; a bit cloudy and bit in the wicket but it's a nice way to start the season," he said of his six wickets so far.

"The wickets come when you've got pressure at both ends and all the bowlers have bowled well in partnerships.

"Our game plan's very simple, bowl as many maidens as we can and try and hit the stumps."

The nine-Test veteran is of the belief that Australian selectors have moved past him as an option for the home summer but says he has nothing more to prove.

"My focus has shifted from playing for Australia to playing well for Tassie and hopefully winning," he said.

"It's a great group of guys on and off the field, it's pretty exciting."
