The launch on Saturday was a huge success with a jam-packed gallery full of enthusiastic visitors and collectors in awe of the professionally laid out gallery and colourful art that lights up the clean white walls.
A fine art gallery run by professional artist, Fern Street Gallery breaks down the barriers between artists and collectors and offers a fine art experience with a personal touch.
Co- founders – Gerringong’s Gitte Backhausen and Mount Kembla’s Kerry Bruce – are both well established artists that met through a shared vision.
“We wanted to create a professional gallery for artists to self-represent,” Ms Bruce said.
“We furthermore wanted to provide art collectors with a fine art experience where they can have direct contact with the artists.
“There is nothing like it on the South Coast and Gerringong was just the perfect place for it.”
Fern Street Gallery represents a select group of resident artists who will have their work on permanent and continuously changing exhibition.
The artists will man the gallery themselves, a great way for the visitors to connect with the creators. In addition, the gallery will also offer the front gallery for hire to interested artists to host and showcase their own solo or group exhibitions.
“It was important for us to create a gallery that can benefit not only the artists that are permanently represented by the gallery, but also create opportunities for the broader community of very talented artist we have on the South Coast and around Australia,” Ms Backhausen said.
Located right in the centre of the shopping street in Gerringong, Fern Street Gallery adds to the beautiful village feel and will no doubt become a desired destination for art lovers.
“We are looking forward to welcoming both locals and visitors to our beautiful gallery,” the pair said.
“We welcome expressions of interest from artist that would like to exhibit with us. We have already got bookings from Sydney artists, so we predict our calendar will fill pretty fast with a great variety of artists, mediums and subject matters for everyone to enjoy.”
In addition to the gallery, there is also a studio space for hire to run art workshops, a great opportunity for artists or workshop organisers to get involved.
